Reusable Pads Program
In many communities across Eastern Uganda, including Luwuka and Namwedwa, persons with disabilities (PWDs) face significant challenges accessing affordable and hygienic menstrual products. Research shows that one in five girls with disabilities miss school due to a lack of menstrual supplies, with 70% experiencing related stigma and 80% resorting to using soil during their menstrual cycle.
Mission: To promote menstrual health independence and economic empowerment for PWDs.
Our Reusable Pads Program is dedicated to promoting menstrual health, economic empowerment, and social inclusion, with a special focus on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Through this initiative, we provide training, resources, and employment opportunities for PWDs, enabling them to produce reusable pads that address both period poverty and environmental sustainability.
PWDs are at the heart of our program’s success. They will:
- Receive training in reusable pad production, quality control, and entrepreneurship.
- Use locally sourced materials to produce high-quality, eco-friendly pads.
- Oversee the production, sales, and distribution of the reusable pads, building leadership and management skills.
For the program to thrive, PWDs require:
- Accessible training facilities and equipment.
- Start-up capital for materials, production, and marketing.
- Continuous mentorship and support to foster growth.
- Inclusive market access and distribution channels to ensure widespread reach.
The Reusable Pads Program focuses on:
- Economic empowerment, providing employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for PWDs.
- Skills enhancement that builds confidence and independence.
- Social inclusion, fostering community engagement and breaking down barriers.
- Menstrual health access, ensuring communities have affordable, sustainable options.
This program benefits not only PWDs but the broader community by:
- Providing affordable, eco-friendly menstrual products.
- Helping to reduce period poverty and related health challenges.
- Raising awareness on disability inclusion and menstrual health.
- Supporting economic growth through local production and job creation.
By supporting our Reusable Pads Program, you help empower PWDs, enhance menstrual health for the community, and contribute to sustainable, inclusive economic development. Join us in creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
