Empowering Persons with Albinism in Uganda: A Call for Inclusion and Justice

Persons with albinism face immense challenges in Uganda and many other parts of Africa. They are often bullied, excluded, and treated unfairly due to misconceptions surrounding their condition. Harmful myths fuel discrimination, racism, and even violence—leading to tragic consequences. In some regions, individuals with albinism are hunted and killed for their body parts, believed to possess magical powers and bring wealth. This heart-breaking reality must change.

Growing up with albinism is particularly difficult, especially for those in poverty. Protecting their skin from the sun is essential but costly, as specialized sunscreen is necessary to prevent skin cancer and other serious conditions. Unfortunately, many families cannot afford these products, leaving children vulnerable to severe health risks. Additionally, albino children often face exclusion in schools, lacking the necessary resources and support to succeed, which further limits their access to education and opportunities.

At Child Care Foundation, we are committed to empowering persons with albinism through inclusivity, equality, and social justice. Our mission is to:

✅ Provide sunscreen and skin care products to protect against sun damage
✅ Offer educational resources and scholarships to ensure equal learning opportunities
✅ Advocate for awareness and policy change to challenge harmful myths and end discrimination

Together, we can foster a society where everyone—regardless of their background, condition, or skin color—can thrive and reach their full potential. Your support can change lives.
