Advocating for the Rights and Well-being of Persons with Albinism in Mayuge District

Published on 11 February 2025 at 12:09

Today marks the second day of our free healthcare outreach in Mayuge District, where we are advocating for the rights and well-being of Persons with Special Needs, particularly those with albinism. Unfortunately, many individuals with albinism face exclusion, discrimination, and harmful cultural myths—some of which have led to violence and even loss of life.

At Child Care Foundation (CCF), we are committed to promoting inclusivity, equality, and social justice for all. As part of our advocacy efforts, we are providing free healthcare services to individuals with albinism in Mayuge District.

Our health outreach program ensures they receive:

Proper medical care and necessary treatments
Essential protective necessities such as sunscreen lotions and sunglasses

Sunscreen is a vital protective measure for persons with albinism, as their skin is highly sensitive to the sun's UV rays. However, in Uganda—where sunshine is abundant—sunscreen remains prohibitively expensive, making it inaccessible to many. Through our program, we are bridging this gap by providing free sunscreen and other essential items to those who need them most.

Our goal is to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment where Persons with Special Needs can thrive and reach their full potential. We believe that healthcare, education, and opportunities should be accessible to everyone—regardless of their abilities or conditions.

By supporting our advocacy efforts, you can help us create lasting change in the lives of persons with albinism and other vulnerable groups.
